We’ve all heard of the importance of blooming where you’re planted. But what if you don’t know where you’re planted or what you’re even blooming into? That means you’re not clear on your purpose and/or vision. Imagine your vision is a vehicle, and your destination is your purpose. In order to have a clear vision we need to have clarity on our purpose. I like to use this diagram of a flower. Take a moment to pop out your journal and walk through the questions below.
Let’s start from the foundation:
The Seed - Our Values
The seed is what you believe in. It’s what helped you start this journey called life. It’s what keeps you going. Ask yourself: What is at the core of how you live your life? What do you believe in? The seed represents the values that you hold near and dear. What are they? What are your standards, beliefs, and values? From the seed, everything else in you is birthed.
Your Roots & Shoots - Who we are
Your roots keep you anchored and are the product of your foundation. The stronger your roots the stronger you are. The first things the seed produces are the roots. I always say - "The Who behind what you do is the most important part" - it holds everything else up - So ask yourself who you are.
Why do you make the choices you make? Why do you live the way you do? What keeps you going? What experiences have you had that root you in who you are? What experiences have caused you to grow?
Your Flower - What we do
The flower is one of the first things that we notice about a plant. It’s what attracts us to the plant. It’s what spreads all of the good parts of the seed (it’s the sex organ afterall lol).
Ask yourself: What lights you up? What physical/visible/tangible activities do you do that open you up, and allow you to enter your zone of genius/ flow state? What are you doing when you feel the most connected to your seed, roots, and shoots? What do people come to you for help with? What did you enjoy doing as a child? What don’t you mind losing sleep over? What activities keep you up at night?
The flower attracts people to us but we want them to get the fruit.
Your Fruit - Our Purpose
We spend so much time thinking about the beauty of the flower that sometimes we forget that the flower is only the precursor to the fruit. The fruit is the ultimate destination. The fruit represents your purpose. Answering the pieces above should help clarify what your purpose in life is.
Ask yourself: What impact do you want to have? What do you believe your purpose is?
And don't forget - The fruit produces life changing seeds. The seeds that come from your fruit will. create a legacy beyond your own imagination so get clear on your purpose today!
